| There's a common misconception - Women can't be friends, especially black women.?And for years, I listened to the tall-tales.?I stayed away from developing relationships with women because I didn't want to deal with and be forced to tolerate the cattiness, jealousy, crossed-lips, betrayal, and disloyalty typically associated with female friendships.?I kept male friends.?I had tons.??At one point, I had two male best friends - both of whom would later betray me beyond my wildest imagination (and it's truly wicked) and leave me standing... alone,?broken, busted, disgusted, and completely confused.Shea - Two Cents
????????????????????????????I met my best friend, Shea, in college.?I hadn't known Shea a week and we had already thrown a BBQ together and gotten tattoos.?I should have known, then, that this friendship was a stake in lifetime.?Shea is a patient and caring friend.?When she knew I was going through my - alcoholic phase - thing and she knew that I thought I couldn't be friends with women and I believed I could only bond with men, she laughed.?She's always been there for me, even when I hadn't been for her.?She got me through some of the roughest times of my life by listening and not judging.?I only wish that in the span of our friendship that I will be the friend to her that she's been to me.?To be a friend, you have to know a friend.?It's because of her, I?am the friend to people that I am now.Shea lead me to Tonya, Corrinda and Shoneka.?Shea and Tonya have known each other since they were three years old.?Shea, Tonya and Corrinda have known eachother since they were about 8 years old.?Shea and?Shoneka?were in a Teacher's Certification program?together.?Oh and yes, we are all in Education!!?Corrinda, Shea and Shoneka all live in Maryland.?Tonya and I live in Jersey - but we make this Circle-of-SisterGyrls-Friendship work.Tonya - Road Map
