| I have been thinking about this topic since the day it was posted wondering I could possibly write that was more refreshing than my last GBE blog.?I sure don't want to come across as the blogger with "issues."?So something presented itself to me again and I find that each time I have heard about this I feel a tug to participate.?With that teaser said I want to blog about this weeks GBE topic:

I have always been a very helpful person.?Always willing to brainstorm, offer advice, listen, lend a hand, etc and expect nothing in return.?I don't expect acolades or fawning over for my assistance as it is just me, the way I am.?I am the girl that recently helped?a little old lady at the store find marachino cherries by having my kids and I break up and go down all the aisles until we found them, then track the lady down with two different jars so she could pick which size she wanted.?She thank us and we shopped on.??Random kindness..that is pretty much all I have time for with 5 kids at home and a husband that I want?to continue loving into our rocking years.??One deliberate act of kindness?I do is to give blood.???I gave blood for the first time in high school.? |
| I gave blood for the first time in high school.?It was my senior year and they were having a blood drive at our school.?I was not yet 18 so I needed a permission slip from my mom to donate.?I am such a tough girl, atleast on the outside, and after I was done giving my pint I grabbed my juice and cookie and proceeded up the stairs to class.?I must have been walking funny because my?one of my old?teachers made me sit down and eat a sucker half way up stairs.?He sat with me for about 5 minutes and we both stood up and went our ways.?When I think back on that day, I remember feeling like I was doing something for someone else.?A selfless act of kindness with the hope of helping someone in need.When I met my husband and found out that he gives blood regularly, I admired him even more.?In fact, he even donated blood exclusively for his first wife in the off chance that she have complications from having their second child and needed blood.? |
| In fact, he even donated blood exclusively for his first wife in the off chance that she have complications from having their second child and needed blood.?He doesn't do it for the free coupons, juice or snack, or the free shirt, the 4 hours off from work..he does it to help others that might be in need.?His blood type is?O and he knows how useful his blood can be.Giving blood?makes me feel good.?Not the actual blood donating, but the knowledge of what that blood can do for someone in crisis.?It cost me nothing, but fills me up with a sense of purpose that is undescribable.?I wear those t-shirts like a badge of honor, just like that silly sticker that says I gave blood today.Even?bigger than blood donation is registering to be a marrow donor.??Times have changed and all you have to do now to?be tested is to have a swab rubbed?around?the?inside of your cheek.?The newspaper?has?been running a story about a 5th grader at a local elementary school that needs a marrow transplant as well?as have had several?marrow?drives to find a match.??They?are having another drive on?May 14th at a local park and?I am going to register to be a marrow donor.? |
