| From the day I received my diagnosis of ALS, I knew my married life was about to really start going downhill.Not only do I have to struggle with the changes in my life that are occurring physically, but now I have to discover my husband's true character, too?He's in worse denial than I am!And has he always been all about himself?Geez...I understand that it was difficult for him to pick up my slack, but when you refuse help that's offered you, then you make it difficult on yourself.He continued to do what he wanted, the kids and myself becoming afterthoughts.Then, his resentment of me started to set in.You'd think I had asked for all this.My last 2 years with him were horrible by most standards.Him, coming & going as he pleased, basically living his life as though I was already no longer part of it.Me, putting on a happy face, but inside, I was slowly dying.Although physically dying at a much faster rate because of being neglected by the man who had once promised to love, honor & cherish me, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, 'til death do us part.Never mind him forgetting the "forsaking all others" part.Previous indiscretions during our marriage could not prepare me for what was yet to come...My step-brother's wife, who had never had anything to do with me before, suddenly became my friend and started coming over to "help out".Bringing supper, cleaning, helping with the kids, and hanging out with me so I wasn't alone all the time. |
| Bringing supper, cleaning, helping with the kids, and hanging out with me so I wasn't alone all the time.After our annual family beach trip, that she showed up at uninvited, my suspicions that she was helping herself out to my husband became magnified.By October of that year, 2003, I'd had enough and was ready to leave him.I just didn't know how.After an 8-day stay in the hospital due to a severe diverticulitis attack, the issue of when was solved upon my return home.He refused to care for me.
