| Tell me again...?that we?ll be lovers and friends That song with Usher, Ludacris and Lil Jon was playing on the radio earlier today and it got me thinking about one of my girl friends.?Not too long ago she developed a pretty serious crush on one of the guys in our circle.?We?ve all been hanging out for a little over?a year now, but the two of them seemed to have a special connection outside of what the rest of us shared.?I mentioned it to her a few months ago, asked her if anything was up between them.?She said no, and that she had never considered it.?So, I pressed the issue.?Pointed out how cute they looked together and what a great guy he was.?I told her he would be perfect for her, and that I had suspected for a while that he was feeling her anyway, so she should just go for it.?She said no, but once I planted the thought it?didn?t take long for that seed to take root and start growing and growing...Long story short, she finally realized she was falling for him and made her move.?Sadly, he turned her down.?Gave her the standard, "I really like you and you?re a great person but I really don?t see you that way" speech.?At first she took it like a champ, played it off real smooth like it wasn?t a big deal.?She tried to keep being friends with him and act like it didn?t bother her but I guess it was tearing her up inside -especially when he started dating another girl.?After not too long she stopped hanging out with him and kind of started avoiding the whole group.? |
| After not too long she stopped hanging out with him and kind of started avoiding the whole group.?Apparently, word got around about it and she was embarrassed.?She even tried blaming me for putting the stupid thought in her head!?I told her to stop being a dork and get over it.?She?ll be okay, but I think she really is hurting.Anyway, the whole situation got me thinking about friendships between men and women, and the never ending debate: When is it okay to cross the line from friends to lovers??What?s the best way to handle it when you find yourself falling for your friend??Is it ever worth the risk of losing the friendship to find out if there is potential for more??And if you do?find the courage to make that move and get rejected, is it possible to keep being friends??The logic behind the whole "friendships turning into romantic relationships" paradigm, is that you think you?re getting the best of both worlds.?You already have the trust, respect and shared interest part taken care of, which is the challenge when you start off just dating.?This is already a person you feel close to and whose company you enjoy.?Now you?re just adding the love, commitment, and eventually the sex...BONUS.?Seems like the perfect situation, right??Unfortunately, it doesn?t always go that smoothly. |
| Unfortunately, it doesn?t always go that smoothly.For me, I?ve been on the other end of the crush.?I?ve been the one being pursued, not the pursuer.?Either side can be uncomfortable, but which is worse??When you?re the object of someone?s affection, for a while you feel like a jerk.?That person is your friend and you care about them.?You believe you would do anything for them -kick the ass of anyone who broke their heart except now, you?re the cause of their heartache.?Maybe you even consider trying it for a while.?But then, after a certain point you start to resent that person; cause damn, it?s not your fault they caught feelings!?Why couldn?t they just keep all that under control?When you?re the one who catches feelings, your heart feels like it?s all in knots, you can?t breathe and you get all tingly when that person is near.?Trying to be in their presence and hold back your urge to stare into their eyes, kiss them and profess your feelings is like trying to hold in a fart.?Eventually you break and nothing is ever the same again.So,?what are your thoughts??Have you ever been in this situation, which one were you??How was the situation resolved? |
