| OH..?WHAT TO DO????I happen to be a witness to a conversation that I found troubling.?The discussion surrounded an imagined scenario where someone was given the news that he had one month to live.?Now, both parties in this conversation had lived a somewhat frugal life, spending and saving wisely, to the point that their retirements were secure.?In retirement, they both continued to live in a thoughtful lifestyle; therefore, both would more than likely leave behind a sizable inheritance for someone upon their death.?One party to the conversation has already been thinking about making a will that would state where remaining money will go.?He thinks about his children one sensible, one not and one emotionally unhealthy.?He knows the harm that money will more than likely have on his oldest son.? |
| He knows the harm that money will more than likely have on his oldest son.?Yet, he wants to be fair between his children.?He also knows that his younger son is a good steward, taking care of those he loves, but he has more than sufficient funds for his own needs and really does not need more money to be divided up among his own ungrateful children.?His daughter is a good, hardworking person, struggling to make ends meet and take care of her children to the best of her ability, but has an abusive, drug addicted husband that she continually stands up for no matter what he does.?He knows his daughter is codependent who will allow her husband to determine the disposition of her inheritance.?He thinks about his siblings who probably could use the money in their old age.?He thinks about both the good and the harm that can come with an inheritance.The man has been agonizing for months over the decisions he needs to make for his last will and testament.??He has not made a decision yet, but he knows that he must in the coming month.? |
| ?He has not made a decision yet, but he knows that he must in the coming month.?He does not change his spending habits while he agonizes over the disposition of his assets.The second man, without hesitation, said that no one needs to worry about who will get his money because if he found out he only had a month to live, he would take all his money and go to Las Vegas, party and gamble, leaving $100 tips everywhere he went.?I cringed?This is not the man I know.?These men continued to discuss what they would/should do with their imaginary scenario of most certain death in a month.?I'm a witness and I listen troubled.?I think of my own life what it would be like to know I only had one month to live.?More importantly than where my little bit of money goes was this question? |
| More importantly than where my little bit of money goes was this question?What would I do with my remaining time??Then, invariably, I think about Jesus and what would He do??Well, I think Jesus would spend his time feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, caring for the children/elderly and leading His sheep to the Father.?HmmmmmI think I just figured out what He would want us to do with our last will and testament
Scripture says we are but a vapor our lives are only a moment in God's time.?Would we want to waste our "moment" at a cost of all eternity??Certainly we should plan for our retirement and the needs of our own families, but what is the right thing to do when our cups are full to overflowing??With that overflow, are we helping the less fortunate members of God's larger family or do we leave a legacy that ultimately promotes harm to family members??I am convicted as a witness to this conversation.? |
