Michelle, Janelle, Steve, Bruce and Laura; all members of the diving team from College, and the best of friends.They?always had great fun?together whenever they hung out.This time would be an exception.They had planned a vacation backpacking through Italy.Some of their time would be just like
THE AMAZING RACE, they always liked to do those kind of scavenger hunt things..This was the quintessential vacation, for all of them...well all except Laura.She was none too keen on all this unplanned stuff...she liked to know each and every detail of
who what where when and why.She was like that, and so they teased her endlessly over it.They nicknamed her CF...for control freak.They were staying at a wonderful Bed and Breakfast in Rome called Esmerelda's.They were to stay for 3 days, and then move on.On their first night there, they decided to have some fun with a scavenger hunt.Bruce was making up the game, he was not going to play this round.?He?had?thought up all?the clues, and handed them
to the others, all except for Laura.She wasn't out from her room yet, so he decided to call her cell, and leave a message with the first three clues.?It was already too late to do much, but they still wanted to have a bit of fun.Laura came to the dining room and found everyone had taken off.She looked on her cell and saw she had a voice message, it was from Bruce.??The message recorded?.."Laura here are your clues."The message however was a bit garbled and she barely could make out what he was saying.She played it and then decided she would need to write it down, if she could.She played it again..."1.)?Light in the darkness, is key

Everyone is to meet back at Esmerelda's B & B at 11pm."Laura understood what she needed to do, collected herself?and off she went.?She thought her friends would have about a 5 minute head start, but she didn't mind.?The idea of all this was just for fun, not really to win the race itself.She was eager to go off and discover the sights!Her first clue...seemed to be for her to buy a flashlight but a small one that fits on a key chain.She went to a local store and found a small keychain light that would do she thought..that was simple.Off to clue number 2...?
Meanwhile her friends were already all together at the Komodo Island Restaurant,
talking about Komodo and how it is a mecca for divers.?They all wanted sometime to have the opportunity to go diving there sometime. |
| They all wanted sometime to have the opportunity to go diving there sometime.As time ticked on Bruce became uneasy, and?began to wonder how long it would take?Laura to make it to?the 3rd?clue and join them.Little did they know, she got that clue all wrong.?The cell phone message was garbled and she heard Quasimodo Bell Grande...BUT, what Bruce said was Komodo Island.?(Which was a quaint Indonesian restaurant nearby).So Laura read her paper again, that said..."When in Rome.." she thought; do as the Romans do.Well to her, that meant go to St Peter's Square, so off she went...Her next clue was odd she thought, trying to piece it all together.Quasimodo...hmm she thought on that awhile, Notre Dame, Quasimodo...ohhhh the Bell tower grande.They will all be there.?There is a gardens where people can walk, I am sure that is it!Laura's friends were getting quite worried.?"Where was she?" they thought??
Meanwhile Laura was off in the grounds nearby the St. Peters Square, she remembered that
there was a cemetery underneath the Basilica and so she was a bit uneasy....She wandered off around the back side of the grounds.Bruce just had that uneasy feeling and decided to backtrack, they all got up and headed off to the?Basilica, to see if there was any sign of Laura.?They called her cell and just got the message..."The cellular customer you are trying to reach is away from the phone or out of the service area.Please try again later!"?AHhhhh so frustrating!?Bruce began to think, this was not such a great start to the trip after all!They got to the grounds?to look for?Laura... they decided now to stay together as it was quite dark.They began to just walk not really sure at all where they were headed, just going by instinct...or perhaps a 6th sense.There was a long walk through the grounds when Janelle saw a bit of light from a pathway.They all headed to that light, it was a small flashlight laying in the grass, it was ON.Totally?creeped out by finding this...real panic set in.Michelle just yelled out "LAURA...LAURA, ARE YOU OK?"?No answer, just silence.They walked a bit further when they heard faint music ahead of them but they couldn't make it out.It was the cell phone, there was music playing on it while lying open in the grass...The song was from the Hunchback of Notre Dame..Bruce ran and picked it up.As?this music played ... they all froze there in silence.In front of them appeared a white figure like Quasimodo.?Where was Laura?Elaine
