Courtney had her surgery on thursday...It will be six week recovery. So, we still have a few issues, but the major one of a floating lead in her spine has been resolved. She can walk, it?s slow and painful, but the legs work.So it appears that no nerves were damaged while pulling the lead down into place. We did spend the evening in the ER.Her pain levels were high...We went to the local hospital.Courtney couldn?t handle the 30 minute drive to the Naval Hospital. We haven?t been to this ER, since our car accident a few years back.I?m still taken a bit aback by the events of last evening...Courtney, a post surgery pain patient waited 5 hrs.before she saw a doctor. They were trying to channel minor care to a Nurse Practitioner. The wait for them was still several hours. After waiting 5 hours to get into a room.It was another three hours to get pain medication and check the wound. We really need another hospital, but they closed one. They are talking about closing another.La Jolla and Del Mar have what they need, so the rest of us are on our own.Or so it seems...The 5 hours spent in an ER waiting room was quite an experience.I?m really struggling with some of what I saw...First I want to remove the race card. The most jaw dropping people were white.Something in the fabric of our nation is starting to unravel...I have been to this ER several times over the years, just not recently.I have never felt uncomfortable there, before last evening. The first incident involved a unsettling chipper mersa patient. He announces on his cell phone that it?s take a long while to get a room, because he needs to be isolated. He has Mersa, AGAIN!His thumb was bandaged, but how long had that bandage been in place and what did he touch? If he needs to be isolated, why is standing near me?I maybe a snob, but I don?t want to be near Mersa.Flesh eating bacteria is not something I want to experience. Also present, were three middle aged women that had been drinking too much for a very long time...It maybe a hold over from my childhood, but I can?t stand the smell of alcohol, on an alcoholic. It?s a putrid odor, that brings back harsh memories...One was demanding to be seen quicker. She was having withdrawals. After being repeatedly denied, she loudly demanded to take her name off the list.

After being repeatedly denied, she loudly demanded to take her name off the list. She was going home to take her drugs! Then she strutted off....Yes, several children were present.I think she had planned this. She could now go home and blame her drug and alcohol abuse on the hospital staff. She was there two hours. An elderly woman was brought in by her mentally slow daughter and the daughter?s friend. The process was a struggle for them, but they got medical care for the mother. They also got the woman dinner at the cafeteria, a hot dog and fries. This woman was so mean to her daughter!I heard her tell her to shut up!In public!!The handicapped woman was struggling but getting the job done! She really deserved better than shut up...I happened to be in restroom with Courtney, when she was assisting her mother on the toilet. The woman was yelling "don?t grab my hand like that!"It was hard to watch.Granted the women were a little annoying, but funny. The tonal quality to the daughter?s voice was very much like a whine. If SNL writers had been there, they would have been a comedy sketch. We were all trying not to laugh at them, but they didn?t deserve meanness from the person they were struggling to help.It was unsettling to say the least...I wish that I could accurately describe the two friends making a cell phone call. One woman would draw out the last word of each sentence, and it would go up or down a few notes depending on how serious she deemed the subject.Lower notes were serious business....Her friend would say, " yes, yes" or " oh, yes!" in a quick hurried response. It took the both of them, but phone calls were made.Business was handled!Bless their hearts!lolI guess, the waiting room really exploded, after we were called back to be seen by the Doctor...Gene walked out to get a drink of water. The hallway was packed, with patients on gurney?s. Two of them had been handcuffed to the gurney?s...Was last night a full moon?
